KRAX investigates, connects and empowers urban creativity that responds to "cracks" in the city.

krax-jornadas.citymined.org

KRAX comes from the idea of cracks in the city, places that generate tensions arising from urban transformation in relation to social and cultural needs. These cracks are a point of attraction for new interests and creations. Krax is an initiative of City Mine(d), centre of production for urban interventions in Brussels, London and Barcelona.

KRAX* s a project that investigates, promotes and connects urban creativity in Barcelona with that of other cities. KRAX believes that Urban Creativity generates alternative proposals and reactions that are necessary to the city's transformation. Autonomous initiatives emerge in response to the lack of value that public institutions place on the need for collectivism, participation and self-management in the process of building the city’s future. These initiatives exist at the cultural, social and economic levels, and we recognise the need to acknowledge and involve them.

Participatory Urban Design & the Future of Alternative Communities.

> Mechanisms of communication to truly democratise our world.

KRAX really rocked, only got there for a few bits of the encuentro, but what i saw, heard, met, learned was very very inspiring.

There is so much going on globally, so much we know about, but so much we dont. Simple clear open effective mechanisms of commmunication, both in terms of mechanisms but also as physical systems/ groups / networks allow us to get deeper into whats going on... KRAX is one such mechanism...this was its second year of open gathering, it will be very interesting to see how it evolves...

One such highly inspirational talk was URBAN TYPHOON's interaction with Dharavi in India, "Asia's largest Slum". It was a gathering to play with ideas of design, not just a token "event" that "cares" but a successful 5 day "extreme passionate event" that led to a very deep connection being made by those living there...

Urban Typhoon says:
"The Urban Typhoon brought together artists, architects, activists and academics from all over the world with the residents of Koliwada, Dharavi to collectively generate ideas, visions and plans, and archive biographies and histories. The workshop's philosophy is based on the idea that communities should be allowed to determine their future and that everyone, no matter the age, language or qualification should be allowed to participate in the process."
