hello people, I am not sure if this is still the place to be for leaving messages and stuff or that it is totally old-school, but as the EASA.TK domain was about to expire, I re-registered it again. But I do not really know if that is still worth my money. The website looks a bit outdated, the links to the left go up to 2010. Do you people still use this domain or is there something new? In that case I might better redirect the domain to the new thing, no matter if that would be facebook or something else? If anything? Jelk full story...

Zurich, 16 February 2012. trans is a semi-annual professional journal of the Department of Architecture at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology ETHZ and has been managed by an independent student editorial team since 1997. The journal addresses current issues in architecture and urban development from a variety of perspectives, such as the humanities, politics, philosophy and the arts. trans thus sees itself as a platform for interdisciplinary discourse. Order provides us with a sense of structure and security. It helps us integrate impressions and information and to store objects systematically. Order is also a strategy for coping in a world that is becoming more and more complex and changing faster and faster. «Space and light and order. Those are the things that people need as much as they need bread or a place to sleep.» (Le Corbusier) However, order can result in standstill, monotony, boredom, and something alien or even hostile to existence. Architecture and urban planning create order that does not always consider the needs of individuals and society. The division of functions in modernist urban planning is a classic example of this. And increasing social segregation currently attests to the potential dangers of too much order. What are the global effects of order that has been designed and built by a select few? In this era of individualism and radical social change, do we now instead need a ‹new order›? Can order prevail even in chaos? «The task of art today is to bring chaos into order.» (Theodor W. Adorno) Is order perhaps an obstacle, a cage, that limits our horizons? What does it mean to be ‹in order›? In German, it also means that something is okay. But is that enough? A compromise? The end result of a vision and its realization? The theme of We are interested in fostering discussion of different positions, directions, and perspectives. The form of contributions to this discussion can be diverse, ranging from scientific articles, personal essays, comments, and portraits to illustrations, photo series, or collages, depending on the content. We welcome a short description of your proposed submission in the form of an abstract. This should be no longer than one DIN A4 page or 600 words, possibly supplemented with a few pictures. Please send us your abstract to the e-mail address below by March 25, 2012. Hi, folks! My name's Gosha Zaborski - some elders could remember me, I hope:) I was EASA participant and, than, tutor in 2004-2006. Today I'm going to tell you a short story and to invite you for a good action. I was inspired with EASA, but my obsession was to develop easa-like spirit of informal architectural education in acton on my native post-soviet background. I've left participating in EASA and spent 4-5 years to drive this idea to sucsess(that's another, longer story of how it could be done: we were working on a small-scale local worksops and building installations for 4000-participants youth science camp in Russia 1,2,3,4; trying to make friends with government and fell in love with political radicals, etc...). Now it's done. Open studio "ArchDepot" - architectural skills for the near future + educaton in action (yep, site is in progress of redesign to have bilingual form now, and most of pages are suspended - but feel free to use my e-mail to ask anything you couldn't locate on the site ). Studio works sustainable since oct., 2010. I've decided, that's time to pay back for inspiration and experience, to bring our contrbution to EASA community. I'm invitng you to participate in the Insterburg summer school project (you may know the city - Insterburg|Cherniakhovsk was hosting SESAM 2010), and to contionue communication. Truly yours (feeling myself like coming back to the family:), Goshaz gosha@goshaz.com full story...
Somone told me on friday: "ah, i know easa, but i will never ever EVER go there! it's only people who want to get drunk all the time and meet other architects and f#ck them" .. i tried explaining how it's quite a bit more than that, how most workshops are amazing and how the idea exchange that happens there can hardly take place in other environments, and what an amazing effort it has been to keep it running for 31 years now.. But none the less, dear EASA friends, let this be a constant reminder that EASA means more than that, and while we are not going to allow getting slut-shamed for participating, keep in mind that it's at least us that should see more than that and not join easa solely for the hookups and the beer, and that we are indeed responsible for the image we give easa and the info we share with the world! This is not an appeal to morality and decency, because we are free to do what we please, but i would like to remind the NCs at least, that the way we describe EASA has an impact on the people who join and on the future of the network itself. It should not be promoted as an insane debaucherous fuckfest for architects, but as what it really is - the platform that allowed so many of us to evolve beyond the indoctrination of our home universities and meet the people who will certainly be on future El Croquis ; ) Future participants should see that and not let the event degenerate into the dreaded big party, since it's them that decide and shape EASA's future. I don't want to be a party-pooper, because i have myself experienced the debauchery and i enjoyed it, dammit! But it hurt me to hear that someone had told this girl that EASA is nothing beyond orgies and alcohol, that that was the best thing about it, while the rest was irrelevant fluff. We need some decent PR. And just another question, which platform are we using now? the easa.tk blog or easanetwork? they are both pretty silent.. Lots of love and hugs and nostalgia .. xoxoxo full story... |
