Dear NC´s, near or far. We would hereby like to officially open the EASA003 international student´s competition for an exhibition pavilion built on sustainable principles. We know that many of you have already been checking out our competition website at www.easa003.dk but due to some technical difficulties, we have not been able to make it official until this moment. In the following we will give you the outlines of this competition and how to participate.
We hope you will get as many participants from your schools as possible to join the competition. Remember that this is not only to get a good design for the pavilion but just as much to fuel good discussions all over the continent, about the nature of sustainability and its relation to architecture. Good luck to you all!! (and to us) Best wishes, EASA003 competition team and organizers. www.easa003.dk full story...
Hello architecture students! Finally, here is info about SESAM 03 that will happen in Banjaluka, Bosnia, between 7-19 of April 2003! Sorry for waiting a bit longer than planed, we had problems with web site and now, when problem is solved here is idea about it, for those who are interested to come and do not know much about it! SESAM in Bosnia will be organized by Eco City Group that has been found by the activists of the students organization "EASA BiH" (European organization of the architecture students, BiH committee) that wanted to extend their local activities, and change inherited situation in their local community. This year's SESAM that we started is named "BANJALUKA-ECO CITY" and it main goal is to gather European architecture students and students from Bosnia for twelve days in order to give visionary ideas on Banjaluka's image as a modern eco city. We are going to work on some way problematic locations in the city, in the urban area of Banjaluka, where it is possible to identify problems and needs of urban surroundings and where we can find inspiration for twelve days of work. This area includes industrial area, Vrbas river, in and out of the city, parks (nature of Banj Brdo). Workshops and ideas Workshop Eco City would be based on work, idea exchange and brain storming of 70 students from all over Europe (50 international +at least 20 local participants). Each workshop is planed to have one working team, with one or two tutors- each tutor has a mission to give basic information in order to present selected topic and location, and to coordinate work and exchange of the ideas inside the group, and between groups as well, and final presentation of the results of each workshop- presentation of the ideas and projects. Finally, each workshop is supposed to present their products in final, accessible public exhibition, in chosen techniques of artistic presentation-such as drawings, models, slide show, photos, computer aided designs, films… One part of the project will be realized in MEDIA labaratory, close to the students lodgins, and final exibition will be realised in National Galery. That is how it was possible to come up with 5 issues (themes) that would be considered within 5 different workshops: RIVER BANKS INDUSTRY INFRASTRUCTURE OPEN SPACES ENVIRONMENTALLY-FRIENDLY APARTMENT More about every workshop and first ideas from tutors you can find on our web page www.ecg.rs.sr under link workshops…. Plan and program of the SESAM As you can imagine we are going to have fun, beside work in workshops. We will try to give you closer look on Bosnia's and Banjaluka's history, tradition, and architecture. That is why we plan to have interesting lectures and excursions, as well as cultural events and parties. Ok, here is a first draft on our work during SESAM...
Remark: Organisors will try to organise more cultural and scientific events, that will be happening paralelly with SESAM activities, but in the evening period -Time Schadulel for these events will be pulished later. This posted story also can be call for all possible participants to apply before 25th of February. This date might be changed but we also had to consider visa period for many of you... Ok, I hope you will find few free days in the spring time, during the semester,(remember two weeks and Easter hollidays at that time - you might won't loose much of your school!) and that you will come to Bosnia... More about application eligability, each workshop, fees and other you can find on our web site www.ecg.rs.sr that will be continiously updated with new information. Also, there will be new info package for those who will be chosen to participate! I also expect you to give first coments about it, and to participate in organizing it as good as possible! Any comment, note, idea or question you can send on our mail ecgbl@yahoo.com Best regards from Eco City Group team! Banjaluka full story...

Hi everybody.. and a happy new year to all of you from all of us. First of all: Did anybody get my mail, concerning help for the competition team.. only Libo replied so far. The mailserver is causing me a great deal of trouble. The news: The competition will open on the 29th as promised, but we need some help from you all.... if you did not get the mail a couple of days ago; I would like you to send me some links to webbased competition lists in your countries... And you will hopefully recieve a pdf-file containing an A3-poster advertising the competition, within a couple of days... if you do not, please send a mail to econ@easa.dk and I will find alternative means. Please print the poster in an eneourmous amount of copies and spread the word... the file is exellent for screensaving on school computers!!!..... It is now 5 o'clock in the morning, I have to present a project tommorow......or today, and I have nothing but little sustainable exhibition pavilions flying around in my brain..... I hope you are all doing better than this. One love Mikkel full story... I'm very sorry for the loss of Toke and I share the great sorrow of not being able to see him again with everyone who loves him, although I knew him very little... ...but I believe that people keep on existing, forever...

Dear NC’s around Europe Here’s a little update for the curious ones. We have had a few questions on how the organising is progressing, so here we go. Since the meeting at Bornholm, we have had some discussions about how the Danish team were being perceived by all you visitors. We had the impression that Danes are being perceived as these hard-working, well-organised partykillers, always on time and harassing others for not being equally focused on producing results all the time. Now, honestly, who would want a reputation like that? Surely we decided to do what we could to get rid of it as fast as possible. Since November we in the organising team have been working hard on achieving a certain Latin laziness, we have totally quit being on time and are getting rather good in fucking up agreements with each other. Our apartments are getting seriously messy (we make spontaneous visits every now and again to document the progress) and of course, the EASA project as a whole is totally out of control. Personally I started off by going to Cuba for a month, leaving a shitload of work behind for the others to deal with. Now that I’m back, Kasper is about to get a full-time job for a couple of months, leaving it up to innocent and inexperienced volunteers from Aarhus to get some money and fixing some tents for you guys to sleep in when (if) you and your friends arrive. And of course we have no clue what is happening with the competition. Maybe next year we’ll sent out some stuff. Allright with you, is it? Well, of course it’s not all that bad. I’ll run through the various things we’ve got going, and continue with a biweekly update to keep you hot, either on Antville or on our own homepage when it gets up and running. About the competition: The original deadline by which you should have received the material was around Jan. 1. We didn’t make that deadline, and have decided on a new, which is Jan. 29. By then we are going to find materials, judges and so on. I’ll get back to the details when things are clearer. For now, just be sure that the competition is going to happen as planned, and prepare yourselves and interested students at your schools for making proposals when the material is released. About the site: After INCM at Bornholm, we visited Friland, the place Lars Keller mentioned one evening during his lecture. From the perspective of what we intend to achieve with EASA003, in terms of approaching the topic of architecture and sustainability, Friland suits the project very well. We are welcomed by those in charge of the place, and have been given a very good site for the pavillon. The Danish State Broadcasting Company, DR, is having their own broadcasting station at Friland, from where they document the endeavours of the pioneering construction work taking place. We are sure of getting nationwide TV-coverage from EASA, and many other aspects are being negotiated in the coming months. One of them is the future of the pavilion we are building, which may end up as a joint-school project where architects and various technicians are trained in sustainable building techniques. We’ll see. However, one major problem about Friland is the lack of infrastructure on which EASA is dependent. At the moment, we are looking for alternative housing facilities in the vicinity, which might result in a splitting-up of the EASA participants in two groups, like it happened last summer in Croatia. If you're curious about Friland, check it out at www.dr.dk/friland Only in Danish, sorry! About the quota: Until we have settled the site and sleeping facilities, we have no clear picture of the exact number of total participation next summer. Hence no exact quota for each country. We’ll let you know as soon as we know! About workshops: You are welcome to begin searching for interested – and interesting – tutors. We’ll make a proper tutor pack later in the spring that you can hand out to those interested. About the website: It should be a matter of days before it’s working on www.easa003.dk. From here you will be able to keep yourselves informed and download all sorts of interesting stuff. About the team: Our intention is to have ten well-defined groups working on each their area of responsibility up to and during the EASA. At the moment, the three most important are in function. And in relation to what I wrote at the top, we decided to give the party group high priority. Among other things, we’re working on having a Cuban orchestra flown in for a special evening. Generally, things are actually going well. Incredible but true. Finally: In the midst of the enthusiasm of working for a great EASA, a tragic and unexpected loss happened to us. Toke, our dear friend, fellow student, EASA participant in both Turkey and Croatia and a very competent co-organizer of next summers event, suddenly died from a heart attack in early December. We’ll miss you Toke, your presence impossible to replace. Ciao for now Anton and Kasper organizer@easa003.dk PS. please leave this topic for our updates only, and confine your good comments to other topics on this site. Thanks! full story... Next page |
