For any potential tutors out there or any who just can't wait for easa|ireland, we are organising a weekend trip to Letterfrack Easter Bank Holiday Weekend. There will be a bus leaving Dublin early in the morning on Saturday 22nd and returning Monday evening, 24th March. Anyone interested in coming along should contact myself at weekender@easa008.ie. We are running this event as a fundraiser for easa|ireland|2008, so we decided that the best thing to do was to organise a nice little weekend away. The price covers the bus up and down from Dublin, food and Accommodation in Letterfrack, and a guided tour by a local historian. So whats the price? Well the price is 150 euros for the whole 'we'll look after you for the weekend' package. Numbers are limited so book early to avoid disappointment! full story...
Application Deadline Easter Sunday March 23rd! Application procedure will be online at www.easa008.ie soon. Get thinking! full story...
Winner Better Cheaper Housing by Hugo Lamont (IRL) and Andrew Griffin (IRL) Congratulations Hugo & Andy!!! ‘Better Cheaper Housing’ by Irish architects Hugo Lamonte and Andrew Griffin won the competition for the site in Dublin and Italian architects Marco Plazzogna and Silvia Bertolone won with their submission for the Cork site entitled ‘Refilling Green’. The two sites offered different sets of challenges, but were rooted in the two overarching problems of Irish Housing – how to expand the city and how to counteract suburban decline. The Dublin winner ‘Better Cheaper Housing’ correctly notes that the open space is underused and lacks a consistent and clear edge condition. It proposes a new curving wall of apartments to both the park and the infill site. The inhabited wall rises and falls in height and opens and closes in plan in response to differing site conditions adjoining. 2008 was the first year of Ireland’s participation in Europan with competitions on two sites; Cork City Council provided a Greenfield site in Cork and Dublin City Council provided a suburban site in south-west Dublin. Submissions were received from 36 teams across Europe. 73 European Cities in 22 countries held competitions. full story...
OK! So... I am an Italian student currently studying at the International School of MIlan! This is my 12th year at school and there is still one to go... but I have decided to move early for university choices. I do in fact have a major interest for architecture, which I carry with me since I was a small child and this is the career I want to follow in future. I am interested in studying in Britain. I have one problem which I hope you could try help me solve. I am very keen on studying the artistic and design aspect of the subject, although I also have a major interest in mathematics and physics. As I go round exploring the various British schools, I can't help noticing how all of them focus ONLY on the artistic side. My intention was that to find something that relates to both sides of the construction: design and engineering... do any of you have any ideas of what would be the most suitable thing for me???? Thanks. Julian full story...
First of all, Carla is right.. The www looks awesome! Also very nice with the competition! It's the first time for me that there's a competition linked to the summer assembly, hence the questions: Can you enter the competition without your local NC's knowing? And if yes: Will the winners of the competition be counting as part of their country quota? I've been thinking about this because as an NC, I'm in charge of finding participants from Denmark (yeah, I HAVE read the guide (partially)). However it seems that everyone from Denmark (or the rest of the world) can enter the competition without me knowing.. Obviously, I'd like to pick my own participants... Rune ps. This is no critique whatsoever, as I said I think you're doing a fantastic work! I know you know that I know! I am rubber you are glue. What would Jesus do. Give a man an egg and he'll eat for a day, teach him how to lay eggs and he'll eat forever. full story...
