Hello people! How's easa fewer? Sorry not to be there :( If any time will be left at this marvelous event in Switzerland I have a suggestion for u (the one we informed u about a month ago).... studen competition in slovenia. For student campus :) This is a letter from organizers... For more infos try on www.campuscontest.net Enjoy summer, teja NC, Slovenia Dear participants, first we want to thank you for your interest in the CampusContest – the student contest for the architectural idea for a student campus in Ljubljana. We hope, you will take part in this contest and that you will send us your vision of a student campus tailored to students. We want to let you know that the closing date for the submission of projects is extended to Tuesday, 20 September 2005. We also want to inform you that you can print graphic plans, originally demanded on A2 format, on one or two A3 format sheets of paper. We are sending you participants' questions and answers to these questions asked up to now. You will find them in the attachment. The closing date for asking questions is also extended to 10 September 2005 due to the extension of the closing date for the submission of projects. We wish you all the best with your work. Kind regards, Eva Krizaj, BA Arch. full story...
I read this in belgian newspaper - (c) BELGA/AFP Libeskinds Freedomtower will never be build. Too dangerous according to NY police. "The tower is told to be too close to the street and the abundant use of glass makes it vulnerable for terrorist attacks with a car bomb." The new design hast to honour the 'spirit' of Libeskinds design en it has to be as high (1776 feet - year of US independance). But it will be another tower.. of another architect. And the main question still stands: 'who'll want to work in such a high tower?' For the new tower there hasn't been found a single person that wants to rent space there. How come that such a design won, then? This project has been chosen on certain qualities that will go lost now in "honoring the spirit of Libeskinds design".. How fair is this towards the other competitors that joined the cometition but didnt win? How fair is this towards Libeskind? It seems that symbolism (1776 feet/Freedom(?)tower/...) is more important than architecture. It seems that they still dont get that any building can be bombed if some1 wants it to be bombed (by car, by plane, by flowerpot, ...). Or should we from now on build only at a minimum distance from the street equal to the maximum blast-radius of the biggest potential bomb? - Dont forget to incorporate the SAM-missiles on your roofs? ;) (It can be solved in a more esthetical way: www.battlemccarthy.com) This megalomania is not a conmemeroration of the innocent who sadly lost their lives on 9/11, but a self-fulfilling-prophecy. Whatever. Skyscrapers are outdated anyway. kus Freefrik NC.b full story...
Dear Julia, Javier, Tamara, Miroslava, Natasha, Alexander, Irina, This is great that the co-ordination meeting will take place in Kyiv already tommorow, on Tuesday, 10th June. I hope, communication sufferings of Green Dossier will come to the end soon! At this meeting SVIT will be represented by its general co-ordinator Julia Myasyscheva and Alexander Bagin, head of SVIT member group from Donetsk region, town Gorlivka. Julia made up a nice list of issues for discusson. Here just to reiterate issues, which SVIT would need to know as soon as possible: 1.How much participants, except for prep.team, could be sent by SVIT? 2.What would be daily rate for a participant? Usually, when we invite volunteers for camps they do not pay for meals and accommodation. For this reason SVIT would need to solve this problem for all volunteers recruted through SVIT (Ukrainian and foreign). Would be great if volunteers recruted through SVIT could have some reduction. 3. Communication in the prep.team: This year SVIT organises three camps apart from Ecotopia. All interetsted volunteers send their applications to the special mailing list. Besides, SVIT has a specially dedicated placement officer Olga Kryvenko (SVIT member group from Kryvyi Rig, svit_info@mg.dp.ua)who together with the general co-ordinator shall deal with issues like putting people in special camps, facilitate contacts between volunteers and camp host, logistics and invitations. SUGESTION, maybe reasonable to use the existing SVIT placement list for all communications on Ecotopia preparation. Or, to think on the creation a new one? The most important is that the list will create a space for discussion for all people, involved in preparation of Ecotopia in Ukraine. As far as I understand, the prep team is located in different places (like Kyiv, Artemivs'k, Gorlivka, Kryvyi Rig, others?) Wish you a very nice meeting. With all good wishes, Olga Malakhova P.S.: I plan to be in Kyiv this Friday, on 13th of June. Maybe to have a quick chat? Should I call you? -- Best regards, Olga mailto:molga@mg.dp.ua full story...
