Hi all Easa003 participants! I have just returned to copenhagen after a few days of dissemblimg the camp at Kalø. First I´d like to thank all the tutors for the cooperation with us, the workshop and material crew. And then to all the participants that made this a really good experience under the blue skies of Kalø. Me and the rest of the crew had an excellent time helping you out with all the material needs, hanging out in strawbales, drinking beers, nightswimming etc. Today it feels like I just stepped out of an spaceship, returning from the parallel universe of EASA. It is another world, and what a world.. Thanks again, I had such a great time, hope to see you next year, hopefully as a tutor to the coolest workshop ever.. hugs and kisses, Fredrik, WorkshopChief. full story...

paraply is online, this is the communication end of the EASA network www.paraply003.com embracing the web ... emails, instant messenger, and webpages kept us informed during this years EASA like no other ! i remember coming back from EASAs , having to read newspapers and find out, what happenend in the world, country or simply in the neighborhood. we at Paraply tried to react on that online-availabilty and not only have lots of paper lying around for you to pack in your lunch for Friland. Our Internetconnection even spread that far, we received news from Friends of Turkeys and Croatian EASA participants, some even helping out in the newspaper from their home PC. Furthermore we do not wish to end duty with this days edition, but even keep posting stories from you. what exciting things happened to you on your way back or who do you miss the most. Check this webspace for more news, what happened after the participants left and the free booze for the organizers and other leftovers was rolled out. Find out if the kitchen crew will ever forgive the Irish and what really happened in the hammocks ! and of course there will be a link area for all your ppictures that you want to share with your EASA friends jb full story...

PRESS RELEASE
Wednesday 6th August 2003 From: Paraply (Umbrella), EASA003, Denmark 400 students of Architecture from 33 countries have gathered at a campsite near Århus, Denmark for EASA003, the European Architecture Students Assembly 2003. Over 20 workshops are taking place between the 27th July and 10th August with the theme as sustainability. The projects range in scale from ashtrays made of waste materials, conceptual discussion to three new-builds using strawbale, timber and compressed board construction. The main construction project is the Econ pavilion, an exhibition centre designed by a team from Slovenia who won the Econ competition that was held between February and April 2003. The pavilion is a play between solidity and the void, construction is mirrored, with opposing sides posing alternative experiences. Every evening a lecture or film provokes much discussion into the question, “What is Sustainable Living and how does it relate to Architecture?” We believe that this is an important event as Architecture affects everybody in everyday situations. As a group of soon-to-be Architects we have an opportunity to redefine what that relationship is. For more information please visit the website at: www.easa003.dk which also has links to the discussion forum at: www.antville.org/easa Then please contact PARAPLY (Umbrella), which is the workshop dealing with communication and the press, so we can arrange interviews, photographs and articles. Email: l_cartlidge@yahoo.co.uk On behalf of Paraply, Lucy Cartlidge (U.K.) This is an important event and we would like to receive as much media coverage as possible. In particular this is essential within the UK, which is currently only represented by three students from the British Isles. full story...
We the undersigned represent the architectural students of Europe- we are presently exploring the issue of “sustainable living” in Denmark and we are demanding that the US government change its environmental policy, switch to renewable energy sources and support the Kyoto agreement. We hope you take this seriously and do your best to make the world more sustainable and peaceful. full story...
the AGORA was the space in ancient greece where philosophers, mathmaticians, scientists, artists and anyone who was interested came to COMMUNICATE @ 3000 years ago. there were amazing thinkers such as socrates, pythagores, democritus, hereclitus, aristotle and good old plato they discussed, explored, played with and loved IDEAS. this is where man developed most of the principles we use today; law, philosoophy, science, religion, reason, logic, mathematics and more. from here western civilisation BLOSSOMED to what we have today. there have been some earth shattering breakthroughs in science during the 20th century that have resulted in a PARADIGM (something just short of infinite)SHIFT in the scientific worldview. in the 20´s we developed the tools to look into the atom, which we thought was the smallest solid piece of matter. we found that in fact 99.9% of the atom is pure emptiness and that that it is minute particles that zoom around that give the appearance of solidity. so the scientific world found out that existence is nothing more than dynamic everchanging forms of energy...... which is what the EASTERN world has been telling us for thousands of years in its religions. chaos theory has also profoundly affected our view of things with its FRACTAL thinking and viewing. so we are remembering again that life is strange. along with this we have developed amazing communication systems that allow people to be anywhere in the world while being able to communicate with someone else anywhere in the world; phones, internet, webcast, chatrooms..... so we have the stuff, but where are we talking and what are we talking about? lovers of life and ideas traveled from everywhere to come to the ancient greek agora in athens, to be part of the dynamic and progressive open system that was the COMMUNICATION SPACE of yesteryear we are aware that we are going through the next major shift in world history, we are part of the NETWORK AGE. the new agora is an attempt to further explore these ideas. full story...
